OPINION | BARBARA WARREN: District decision

District decision

Hello, Pine Bluff School District family and stakeholders.

Today, Dec. 10, the Arkansas State Board of Education (ASBE) will make a highly anticipated decision about the future of the Dollarway School District that will more than likely have a profound impact on the Pine Bluff School District.

Last week, during the ASBE's work session, state Education Department Secretary Johnny Key expressed that it is his plan to recommend a decision for the Pine Bluff School District to annex the Dollarway School District.

The Arkansas Department of Education released a link regarding the ASBE decision. There is a great deal of information on the website including detailed pros and cons outlining the options that the state board must consider by law. This link can be found at https://bit.ly/DollarwaySDInfo.

Many of the communication efforts have targeted the Dollarway School District community. While information was communicated internally, looking back, that is an area that definitely could have been improved upon communitywide.

Once the decision has been made, there will be opportunities for our families, community stakeholders and business and industry partners to collaborate in order to develop a vision for educating and serving our scholars.

Regardless of the outcome, we will need you now, more than ever, to help navigate the days ahead. Please listen for future communications on ways to join the conversations and planning sessions.

It is my prayer that God bless the decision, and that our community be stronger on the other side.
