Deal me out, casinos

I won't spend one cent at any Indian Nation casino. I have spent a few over the years and regret every penny. It seems to me gambling odds are less favorable compared to other casinos.

One example: Indian Nation casinos where I have played blackjack require an upfront 50-cent fee to play a hand. If you are betting $5, that is a 10 percent charge.

Another example: Slot machines' play is less favorable; the best slot odds are not offered on most machines.

Arkansas, count me out as a player in your casinos.

Too far to aid wealthy

On one day I'm reading about almost 10,000 poor, elderly people losing assisted-living payments that keep them out of nursing homes. The next day I'm reading about state income-tax cuts for the wealthy in Arkansas totaling $192 million per year.

Shame on you, Governor Hutchinson and legislators, if you let this pass. Shame on you!

P.S. This is my first letter to the editor. I'm an upper-middle-class voting citizen. Be careful of riling the center electorate. You are going too far to help the wealthy few and taking away the American dream from the many. When did $18,001 become the upper end of the tax bracket? I never thought that people working in fast-food restaurants would be in the same tax bracket as the Waltons, Tysons and Stephens. Again, shame on you.

Still front and center

It seems that the SCOTUS refusal to hear the case related to certain states' attempts to prevent taxpayer funds being used to fund Planned Parenthood is once again keeping the issue front and center.

Roe v. Wade left a legacy of discord that just continues to rot on the vine. To most Americans, our very soul as a nation is tied to the issue of "unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

That life comes first is no small matter.

I believe Justice Clarence Thomas was spot-on in his dissent, and continues to be the conscience of the court. We need continued clarity and the courage of convictions as he so ably exhibits.
