Explore history through eye-witness accounts of the Civil War period in Northwest Arkansas. Every neighborhood struggled to survive persistent bushwhacker attacks and dangerous military confrontations. Food was scarce and it was extremely dangerous to work alone planting crops in the fields. The Union Army sponsored several farm colonies where war-weary citizens could live and work together in safety until the war ended and peace returned to the countryside.
