In this course, you will examine the necessity and problems of Holocaust memoirs. The course will highlight and compare the work of two survivors (Primo Levi and Ruth Kluger): how do they each discuss and depict where they live, Nazi policy, the camps, camp life, social structures, survival strategies, and life after liberation? We will also discuss how they conform to and/or write against expectations, and what role they have played in the Holocaust canon. Memoir 1: "Survival in Auschwitz" (Primo Levi) Memoir 2: "Still Alive" (Ruth Kluger) For more information, call 479-575-4545 or e-mail at [email protected].
