Betty Jean Akin Hill

Betty Jean Akin Hill went to her Heavenly reward and was reunited with her beloved daughter Jean Beth on Feb. 27, 2022. Betty was born in Floyd, Ark., on Jan. 9, 1933, to Guy and Ramah Lee Walker Akin. She attended school in Floyd and graduated from Beebe High School, where she was a member of the school's basketball team. She graduated as a registered nurse from Baptist Hospital Nursing School in 1953 and married Dalton Hill on Christmas day that same year. Betty worked as a nurse at Baptist Hospital, for the surgeon Dr. Paul Hoover, and as an occupational health nurse at Teletype, an AT&T subsidiary. She also worked in the endoscopy clinic at Little Rock Diagnostic Clinic. She was known for her dependability, exemplary nursing skills, caring attitude, thoroughness and dedication to her work. She was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church, and her favorite hobby was playing bridge and other card and board games. She enjoyed live theater and dining at area restaurants and was an ardent fan of all Arkansas Razorbacks sports, with a special affinity for the basketball team. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Charles Edward Akin, her daughter JeanBeth, and her ex-husband. Survivors include; her cousin, Johnnie Nell Thomas and her sons, Dan Thomas (Susan), J. R. Thomas (Natalie) and Joey Thomas and their families; her nephew, Ronnie Akin; her sister-in-law, Wanda Price, and her children Rhonda Shelman (Larry), Barry Sproul (Julie) and their families; and her son-in-law, Charles Galloway, his siblings and children and their families. Betty is also survived by many longtime and special friends including Beverly Darwin, Lonnie Baker, Corrine Gilbreath, Barbara Clark, Lu Teeter, members of the Win One Sunday School class, and all her bridge-playing friends. Memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice. Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, in the chapel of Roller Chenal Funeral Home at 13810 Chenal Parkway in Little Rock.
