Dr. Thomas W. Gray, age 98, of Greenland, died May 22, 2022, at his residence. He was born March 23, 1924, in Tucson, Ariz., the son of Joseph Arthur Gray Sr. and Bertha Thompson Gray. He served as a medic in the U.S. Army as a Top Sergeant, where he earned an Honorable Discharge serving during World War II. He was a doctor for many years, serving as Chief Surgeon at the VA Hospital in Fayetteville. He was a Lions Club member, president of the Greenland School Board, and Greenland's team doctor. Dr. Gray was also the first board certified surgeon in the state of Arkansas. Dr. Gray enjoyed gardening and bird watching. Irises were his favorite flowers, but he loved peonies, roses, and all other flowers. He also loved spending quality time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents and, on May 25, 2019, by his wife, Catherine Gray, whom he married December 15, 1951. Dr. Gray is survived by: four sons: Thomas Gray II and his wife Ann, of Little Flock, Arkansas, Raymond Gray and his wife Judy, of Texas, Stephen Gray and his wife Jill, of Georgia, Peter Gray, of Greenland; three daughters: Patsy Campbell and her husband Randy, of Fayetteville, Christine Harrison and her husband Stacy, of Winslow, Ruthy Overholt and her husband Scott, of North Carolina: one sister, Bertha Courtney, of Michigan; brother-in-law, Walter Gage and his wife Joan, of New York; sister-in-law, Donna Ratzel, of New York; brother-in-law, Johnny Fladd, of New York; sister-in-law, Susan Gage and her husband Jim Bour, of New York; many cousins; several nieces and nephews; 27 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild on the way. The celebration of Dr. Gray's life will be held June 10, at 2 p.m., at Farmington First Church, 589 Rheas Mill Rd., Farmington, Ark. Interment will follow at Baptist Ford Cemetery located in Greenland. Memorials may be sent to the Catherine Gray Nursing Scholarship through Arvest Bank. In lieu of flowers, the family requests bird feeders or potted flowers. These will be given to grandchildren and great-grandchildren in remembrance of Grandpa's hobbies.
