Vera Sanders Taylor of Springdale, Ark., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 18, 2020. She was born December 2, 1929, in Clarksville, Ark., to Cladie and Edna Sanders. In her early years, Vera lived in Clarksville, where she went to school and worked to help her family. She often shared memories of picking cotton, washing clothes at the spring with her mother, and taking care of her younger sisters. When she was old enough, she also worked in town as a waitress. As a young woman, Vera married V.H. Taylor, and they shared almost 74 years of marriage. Being with V.H. made her the happiest throughout her life. Wherever he was is where she wanted to be. Together they moved to Springdale and finished raising their three children. In the winter months, she enjoyed traveling in their RV and spending time in Donna, Texas, with V.H. and other close family members. Vera was known for her love of cooking and baking for her family. Her specialties included homemade chocolate cakes and peanut brittle, along with all kinds of pies and cobblers. Sitting down at her table to share a meal was the biggest treat. Her family loved coming to visit because she welcomed them with a big smile and a greeting of "well, look who's here". Then, she was always quick to offer her chair. In addition, Vera was a wonderful seamstress and made curtains and special occasion dresses for her friends and family. Every stitch of her work was carefully sewn. Later in life, Vera enjoyed many summers at the family fruit stand near her home. She was easy to spot in her red apron and white visor, and with her distinctive freckles. Vera was a hard worker and took pride in displaying the tomatoes just right. When she had free time, you could find her on the front porch watching the birds and squirrels or sitting with V.H. near the backyard garden. Vera loved the Lord; she was saved as a young woman and was faithful to attend church for as long as she could. She was confident she would see Jesus one day. A couple of the many verses marked in her Bible were 1 John 5:12-13 and 2 Corinthians 5:8. Vera was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and daughter. She truly had a servant's heart and will always be dearly loved and remembered by all that knew her. Vera is preceded in death by her parents, Cladie and Edna Sanders; her sister, Faye Cowell; and son-in-law, Billy Dale Harris. She is survived by her husband, V.H. Taylor of Springdale; her daughters, Marilyn Harris of Van Buren and Sandra Wilt (Brian) of Siloam Springs; her son, Lonnie Taylor (Sue) of Springdale; her sister, Myrtle Taylor (Bill) of Springdale; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family will hold a private graveside service Wednesday afternoon, October 21, 2020, at Mt. Airy Cemetery in Clarksville under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville, Ark. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to: Samaritan Community Center Springdale Location/Vera Taylor, PO Box 939, Rogers, Ark., 72757. Over-the-phone Springdale designated donations may be made by calling Samaritan Community Center at 479-636-4198. For general donations, visit www.samcc.org.
