Jerry Stokes

On Tuesday, October 13, 2020, Jerry V. Stokes, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 83. Jerry was born June 17, 1937, in Cave City, Ark., to Archibald Varnold and Mary Ruth Andrews Stokes. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother William J. Stokes. He served in the United States Navy, retiring after 30 years. On July 17, 1991, he married Nancy Ann Wright of Rogers, Ark. Jerry loved all critters, especially cats and dogs were his favorites. Jerry was most happy when he went for walks and had a following of pets tagging along. Jerry always had treats for all critters along the way. Jerry was known for his dry wit, a true southern gentleman and was not shy about voicing his political opinions. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his two children, Traci Smith of Conway, Ark., and Jerry "Jaybird" Stokes of Leonardtown, Md.; his sister, Sue Tingley of Moline, Illinois; and numerous grandchildren. Visitation will be held 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., Thursday, October 15, 2020, at Moore's Chapel. A private graveside service will be held at Fayetteville National Cemetery, under the direction of Moore's Chapel.
