Billy Wayne "Bill" Riley

Billy Wayne "Bill" Riley, 81, a long-time resident of Prairie Grove, Ark., died November 4, 2020, at WRMC hospital in Fayetteville, Ark. He was born November 18, 1938, in Thomaston, Ga., the youngest son of Halbin Laverne Riley and Birdie Mae Henderson Riley. He was a retired Captain of the U.S. Army and a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He received a Bronze Star for his valor in Vietnam. He also retired from the University of Arkansas, where he served as the Director of Transit. He developed the entire public transit system still serving the University and the City of Fayetteville today. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 57 years, Clara Mae "Caral" Riley, one grandson, Preston Riley, his parents, and six siblings. Survivors include four sons, Glen George Newsom of McAlester, Okla., Billy Wayne Riley II and his wife, Melissa, of Loveland, Colo., Bobby Wayde Riley and his wife, Ivonne, of Lufkin, Texas, and Bryan Warde Riley and his wife, Tara, of Siloam Springs, Ark., and one daughter, Mary Helen Peter and her husband, Preston of Fayetteville, Ark., thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Monday, November 9, 2020, at 10 a.m., at the Prairie Grove Cemetery pavilion.
