Audrey Jean Clinehens, age 96, of Fayetteville, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020. She was born February 24, 1924, in Minneapolis, Kan., the daughter of Alva and Effie Gregory Merryfield. She was preceded in death by her husband Pearl Ingalls Clinehens. Our mother went from a one room schoolhouse to Kansas State in Manhatten, Kan., to her dietic residency in Manhattan, N.Y. She came to Fayetteville, as a dietician for the Veterans Administration Medical Center, until taking a break to raise her two daughters. Later she returned to work as director of the Fayetteville Public Schools food service program until she retired when the grandchildren began arriving. She was a member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church, Junior Civic League, Garden Club and Town Club. Growing up our mom sewed all our clothes and Christmas stockings, not for us but for others too who needed them. She was also the garage sale queen. When the grandchildren came to grandma's she would have clothes and toys laid out for them, which they loved! She instilled the quality of being thrifty in all of us. She was an adventurer at heart, enjoying travel. Her last adventure was snorkeling with the sea lions in the Galapagos, at the age of 89. She is survived by two daughters, Connie Fletcher and husband Don of Little Rock, Ark., and Cheryl Barker and husband Jeff of Morrow, Ark; six grandchildren, Micah Rice and husband David, Barrett Barker, Travis Barker, Casey Fletcher and wife Samantha, Abby Fletcher and Caleb Fletcher and wife Megan; ten great-grandchildren, Prairie Rice, Wylder Rice, Beau Barker, August Rice, Kate Barker, Hudson Fletcher, Atlas Fletcher, Jaxon Fletcher, Aila Sage Rice and Silas Fletcher. Visitation will be 3–5 p.m., Sunday, November 8, 2020, at Moore's Chapel. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, at Fayetteville First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Moore's Chapel. To sign the online guest book, visit www.mooresfuneralchapel.com
