Agnes Mae Hughes, age 93, of the Whitehouse Community passed away Friday May 1, 2020 in the Whitehouse Community. She was the daughter of Jim and Sarah (Belle) Harris McGee, born September 24, 1926 in Mineral Springs. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ted; a daughter Reba Hughes; two brothers Hugh and Emmett McGee; two sisters Katherine Jones and Nancy Sorum; a son-in-law John Cole and granddaughter Amanda Cole. Agnes loved to crochet, solve puzzles, spend time with family and grow vegetables in her own garden. She was an avid reader, always looked forward to family gatherings, visits and phone calls from friends and loved ones. She was a good Christian and regularly attended services at the Whitehouse Church of Christ. Agnes was known as a genuine and terrific human being, who always had a smile for everyone. She welcomed others into her home with big country breakfasts, delicious zucchini bread, fresh vegetables from her garden, and mostly her sincere heart. She cared deeply for all, and especially for the children in the family. A way she showed it was with making quilts, afghans and personalized crotched stuffed animals for Christmas and other special occasions. She leaves behind a legacy to all who knew her, not just family! What a pure, intelligent, strong and beautiful woman she was! Agnes is survived by her children Paul Wayne Hughes and his wife Kathleen of Elkins; Gerald Hughes and his wife Ivett of Houston Texas, Ivan Hughes and his wife Melissa of the Whitehouse Community; Eloise Cole of the Whitehouse Community; five siblings, two brothers and three sisters Blanche Burris of West Fork, James McGee and his wife Joan of Independence, Mo., Wilma Laha and her husband Troy of Little Rock, Bill McGee of Augusta, Kan., and Marinel Mills and her husband Harry of West Fork; brother-in-law Paul Sorum of Glenville, Minn.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and church family.
