Jon "Danny Sampier" Freshour

Jon Danning Freshour was born in Jackson Hole, Wyo., on July 13, 1938, to Beryl Freshour and Dorothy McCain Freshour. He passed always December 31 2019. Raised in Rogers, Ark., by his stepfather J. Wesley Sampier and his mother Dorothy, he was known to all as Danny Sampier. He was a graduate of Rogers High School and Alfred University, Alfred, N.Y., with a degree in Ceramic Design. He was a Navy veteran. His career was spent as Chief Registrar for several institutions: The National Portrait Gallery, the Library of Congress, and was Director of a special exhibit of a recreation of the 1876 Philadelphia Exposition for the Smithsonian Institution. During this project he became proficient in sign language in order to better interact with those workers and artisans who were deaf. While at the Smithsonian he twice served as guide for a tour of the Soviet Union. He was recruited by the Museum of Albuquerque as Chief Registrar for a national touring exhibit entitled, "Maya: Treasures of an Ancient Civilization". For that exhibit he spent 18 months in the jungles of Belize, Guatamala and Mexico collecting or photographing Mayan artifacts. Upon completion of the tour he was hired as Chief Registrar for all museums of the State of New Mexico with his office in Santa Fe. He was recruited away to be the first Head Registrar for the new National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque. Upon retirement he maintained his home in Albuquerque prior to moving back to Rogers in 2018 for health reasons to live with his brother. He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather and mother. He is survived by his half brother John Sampier and wife Janet; nephew Rob Sampier and wife Katie and their children Jaidyn, Brynnlie and Caden; niece Erin Windholz and husband Marty and their children Carter and Landon; niece Courtney Sampier-Brown and children Blake and Parker; step-niece Haylee Hayes Pierce and husband James and their children Maya and Maddox; and Taylor Hayes Vaccaro and husband Matthew and their son Warren. His wishes were to be cremated with no services planned.
