George Christopher Hales of Dallas, Texas, died peacefully in his sleep at his home on March 28 at the age of 48. He had suffered a long illness and was with his wife, daughters, and parents when he went to be with the Lord. Chris was born on January 11, 1972 in Decatur, Alabama to James F. Hales and Patricia (Roaten) Hales. He grew up in Greenville, Mississippi and Rogers, Arkansas. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1990 and the University of Arkansas in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. During his time at the UofA, Chris met and fell in love with Leah Glover. They were married their junior year, and after graduation, got jobs and moved to Dallas, Texas. They had two children, Maggie Jamison Hales and Cora Katherine Hales. Chris worked as a high school history teacher in Grand Prairie, Texas for over 20 years. He loved the University of Arkansas and was especially proud to be an alumnus. On the wall in his bedroom was a framed etching from the sidewalk at the UofA of his and Leah's names together, forever showing that they were graduates. He loved Razorback football and basketball, and one of his proudest possessions was a basketball with autographs from the players of the 1994 National Championship team. Chris was well loved by family and friends and had a wonderful wit and sense of humor. He had a great attitude about life which made him fun to be around. He had a kind heart and loved his wife and family immensely. Even in times of great distress, he did not want to burden others with his problems. He will be missed, but his family gets comfort in knowing that he is at peace with the Lord. Chris is survived by Leah Hales, his loving wife of 26 years; his daughters, Maggie and Cora Hales; his parents, James and Pat Hales; his brother, James Hales, Jr and wife RayAnn; his sister, Karen Hales Nelson and husband Jonathan; his mother and father-in-law, Larry and Brenda Glover; his grandmother, Frances Hales; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins. Chris was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, but due to the Corona virus crisis, there will be no funeral or celebration of life at this time. If desired, people can make a donation to the UAMS Myeloma Center in memory of George Christopher Hales. https://cancer.uams.edu/myeloma/.
