James Clifford Garriott

James Clifford Garriott, age 89, departed this life on Thursday evening October 25, 2018 at his home with his loving family by his side. James was born on Wednesday, March 27, 1929 in Fayetteville, Arkansas to Vernon and Ora (Andre') Garriott which preceded him in death. James was a electronics engineer by trade and worked 30 years with Seismograph Service Company (SSC) in Tulsa during which he worked as an electronic design engineer, area manager and research manager. Cotton, as he was called, and his family, spent six years in Mexico, and four years in Brazil. Cotton was a member of the Society of Exploration Geophysics, IEEE, Tulsa Geophysical Society and the European Geophysical Society. Cotton earned his BSEE degree while working for SSC. He also served five years in the US Navy with 2 of those years was in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. After retiring from SSC, he spent three years with Geosource Corporation, as a Operations Manager. He later took lessons in painting and discovered a passion for it. He especially loved painting landscapes, still life and portraits. Cotton was preceded in death by his wife Theda, his parents, his grandson, James Daniel Meckler and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by a son, Mark Garriott of Wagoner, Oklahoma, also a daughter, Sandra Meckler and husband Dan of Springdale Arkansas, three brothers, Don Garriott and Louise, Tom Garriott and Martha, Jimmy Garriott and Jane, one sister, Maxine and Rick Anderson. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the Fayetteville Arkansas National Cemetery with Life Celebrant Anita J. Shipman officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Shipman Funeral Home & Crematory in Wagoner, Oklahoma. Donations can be made, in his name, to Legacy Hospice, 410 E. Illinois Ave., Vinta, Okla. 74301.
