James Nolan (Jim) Lyon, aged 77, passed away on May 2,2018 at Northwest Medical Center in
Springdale, Ark. He was born June 17, 1940 to Paul Ezra Lyon and Lela Mae Gauldin Lyon in Springdale, Ark.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sharon Graue Lyon of the home, three children, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren: daughter, Linda Simpson and husband James of Bentonville and their children and grandchildren: Amanda and Lance Weaver and their daughter Ella and son Jackson of Pampa, Texas; Rebecca and Jake Usery of Groton, N.Y.; and Tyler Simpson of Fayetteville, Ark.; son, Jim Lyon and wife Debbie of Bentonville and their children and grandchildren: Brandi and Jenn Lyon and son Noah of Centerton; Jimmy and Laura Lyon and their daughter Gwyn of Fayetteville; and daughter Samantha of Bentonville. Daughter Brenda Jones and husband Carl of Siloam Springs and their children and grandchildren: Lisa and Del Tracy and their daughters Makenna and Bentlee Gardisser of Ludowici, Ga. (expecting a son, Declan Samuel in September); Cody and Rachael Jones and their daughter Avery of Blue Ridge, Ga. (expecting another daughter, Annalee Claire in June).
Jim attended Springdale High School and joined the Marine Corps in 1957, where he earned the Expert Rifle designation. He was honorably discharged in 1965. He worked for Jones Truck Lines in Springdale for 22 years, driving a truck for 20 of those years. He earned the American Truckers Association 20-Year Safe Driving Award for no accidents.
Jim served as a board member and Vice President of the Springdale Jaycees and was President of the Swinging Eights Square Dance Club in Rogers. He also served as Vice President and President of the Board of Directors of the Farmers Cooperative of Cave Springs and Springdale. He was a member of the Springdale Riding Club and President of the Highfill Riding Club.
Jim and Sharon and their family owned and operated farms in Lowell and Highfill, Ark. and Purdy, Mo. that included turkey production, beef cattle, dairy and associated crops. He also served as a representative to the Mid America Dairy Association. The Lyons were named the 1985 Benton County Farm Family of the year.
Jim loved horseback riding, rodeo, and all things outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, bass fishing, and camping. He and Sharon bowled in leagues for years with friends at Hillside lanes in Gentry. He was an avid fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 6 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale. Services will be Monday, May 7 at 2 p.m., also at Sisco Funeral Chapel.
