Irene was born July 22, 1927 in Mantorville, Minnesota, the daughter of Charles C. and Alice E. Suhr Cumberland. She married Theodore E. Spradling on September 25, 1949 in Mantorville. They had a wonderful 46 years together. Ted died on October 2, 1995. They adopted two daughters, raising them on the premise that it's the ultimate gift of love to give up a child; that they were selected not expected. Irene grew up on a farm in Minnesota with two sisters. A hard working business woman, Irene always prided herself on being reliable, thorough and flexible. She loved to take long walks, play bridge, read and host wonderful dinner parties for her friends. Irene was always very social and had an ornery sense of humor that kept all that knew her chuckling. Irene, while married to Ted, spent many years in Andrews, Texas, Carlisle, Iowa, McPherson, Kan. then they retired to Rogers, Ark. Irene moved to Bloomington, Il to be with her daughter Ylanza, for the last three years of her life. This gave her the opportunity to spend quality time with her granddaughters, great-grandchildren and her dear friend Tony the three legged terrier. Irene is survived by her daughters, Ylanza (Jeff) Stockweather of Bloomington and Paula (Troy) Ockerman of Charleston, S.C.; five grandchildren, Ashley (Dallas), Paige (Brent), Emily, Bennett and Theodore Jacob and also by great-grandchildren, Reese, Jamisen, Camden and Clayton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her older sister Carol and her twin Ilene. Irene had a wonderful 89 years for which her family is grateful.
