Dorothy Evolee Walls Catlett, 95, of Springdale Arkansas, passed away on March 12, 2016, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. She was born in Herpel, Arkansas, on December 1, 1920, to Chester Otto and Lula Walls. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Johnie Catlett. She is survived by her son, David Catlett and his wife, Kay, of Stow, Ohio; her daughter, Donna Power and her husband, Bruce, of Springdale; seven grandchildren, John Catlett, Justin Catlett and wife Heather, James Catlett and wife Heather, David Power, Haleigh Power, Daniel Power and Andrew Power; and great-grandsons, Pace, Eli and Judah Catlett. Dorothy attended Arkansas College, now Lyon College, in Batesville from 1938-1940 before returning to teach at the one room school in her hometown. She later moved to Little Rock to attend Draughn's Business School and during World War II worked for Ford-Bacon & Davis Defense Contractors in Jacksonville. After the war ended, she worked as a bookkeeper for Liberty Loan Company located in Strawn's Furniture Store. She eventually retired as a taxpayer representative for the Internal Revenue Service. Dorothy was a charter member of Gaines Street Baptist Church, which later became Olivet Baptist Church and is currently Lifeway Church. She taught Sunday school for over 50 years and was known at church as simply Teacher. She had a passion for teaching God's Word and spent her life living out her faith in Jesus Christ. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 16, at 1:30 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth, 5800 West 12th Street, Little Rock, with Rev. Freddy Parker officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lifeway Church, 800 Wellington Village Road, Little Rock, AR 72211.
