Richard Lee Power

Richard Lee Power of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, died peacefully after a spontaneous brain hemorrhage at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa on March 10, 2015, surrounded by family. He was born September 6, 1944 in Nashville, Arkansas, to parents Louis Ross Power and Martha "Louise" Young Power. Education began in Nashville. After a family move, Richard graduated from Lawton High School in 1962. He attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, the University of Oklahoma in Norman, and then graduated as a pharmacist from Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma, in 1969. He was a fraternity member of Delta Upsilon at OU and Kappa Psi at Southwestern. The next six years were spent in the United States Army Reserve while working pharmacy jobs in Arkansas and Oklahoma. Richard and Koni (Connie) Jo Boone Power were married in Springdale, Arkansas, in 1971. A move to Lawton began a twenty-year career in the family lumber brokerage business. He enjoyed building homes and working in the roofing business. He returned to pharmacy in 1992 working at Walgreens and doing relief work in Eastern Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas. In retirement years he owned Power Auto Sales, LLC. He was a familiar face at car auctions in the Tulsa area. A Boy Scout member as a youth, he attended the 1957 National Jamboree. As an adult scouter he was elected into the Order of the Arrow, and was inducted to the highest level, Vigil Honor, in 1994 and given the Indian name "Noch Atschimolsin" meaning "Our Father Who Counsels." He attended conclaves locally and eight National Order of the Arrow Conferences (NOAC). He was the father of 2 Eagle Scouts and a mentor for many. His parents preceded, Richard in death. Survivors include his wife of the home; son, Dr. Philip "Justin" Power and wife Nicole Lianna Power of Edmond; son, Preston Lee Power and wife Dr. Jeannette Carolina Power of Tulsa; grandchildren, Samantha Elise and Benjamin Taylor of Edmond and Ezra James, Evan Scott, and Amaya Louise of Tulsa, brother, Dr. Jon David Power of Trent Woods, North Carolina. A Christian, he attended Church on the Move. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to the Scholarship Memorial Fund at Indian Nations Council, Boy Scouts of America. Checks may be written to "Indian Nations Council" with "in memory of Richard Power" in the memo and sent to the Scout Resource Center, 4295 South Garnett Road, Tulsa, Okla. 74146. Private family burial will be at Bluff Cemetery in Springdale, Ark. on Saturday, March 14, 2015.
