Amos Jackson Jr.

Amos Jackson Jr., 82, of Fayetteville, Ark. passed away on Aug. 18, 2015. Amos was born on Jan. 3, 1933 in Fort Smith, Ark. to Amos Jackson Sr. and Ocie Mae Adams. Amos attended Lincoln Sr. High School in Fort Smith. Following graduation, Amos joined the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. After serving his country, Amos returned to Fayetteville where he married his sweetheart Elnora Lackey on Feb. 9, 1957, and became an important part of the community by coaching Little League Baseball, PeeWee Football, participating in bowling leagues across the state, and playing baseball with the Brown Bombers, where he was affectionately known as "Crazy Legs Jackson". He worked for Southwestern Bell/AT&T, and retired after 31 years of service. Amos also served as a barber for many of the men in the community. Amos had a vibrant personality and often kept everyone entertained by telling jokes and displaying his infectious smile. He never knew a stranger and wasn't satisfied until everyone around him had a smile on their face. Amos was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lorene Logan; and his son, Michael Jackson. Amos leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 58 years, Elnora Lackey Jackson; his son, David Jackson and wife, Tracy of Fayetteville; daughter, Anita Bland and husband, Michael from Columbia, Mo.; sisters, Andretta Fisher and Jossie Flowers, both of Fayetteville; brother-in-law Thomas Wayne Lackey and wife, Marva of Ft. Worth, Texas; sister-in-laws JoAnn and husband, Farrell Goodley of Fayetteville, Ark., Roberta Morgan of Fayetteville, Ark. and Barbara Lackey of Russellville, Ark.; aunt, Rosie Lee Cravens of Fort Smith; grandchildren, Natasha and Jermaine Jackson, Mesquite, Texas, Andrea Jackson, Houston, Texas, Jonathan and wife Ebony Jackson, Plano, Texas, Sierra and Ashley Bland, both from Columbia, Mo., Danielle Neely, Batesville, Ark., and Kia Grant of Fayetteville; great-grandkids, Roderick, Preston, Caleb and Terrance Jackson, all from Mesquite, Texas; Ian and Kiara Tripp from Batesville, Ark.; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Family visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 2015 at Beard's Chapel. Funeral services will also be held at Beard's Funeral Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015 with Steve West officiating.
