Vernon L. Dilbeck

Vernon L. Dilbeck, passed away peacefully July 8 at Las Villas Del Norte Nursing Home in Escondido, Calif. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nelda Sly Dilbeck, children Edwina Mince, deceased, Edwin (Debbie) Dilbeck of Ogden, Utah: Janette (Paul) Schmitt of Vista, Calif.: John (Keleni) of San Diego, Calif.: eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: sister Barbara (Ronny) Weaver of Springdale, Ark.: nephew Heath (Cheri)and son Rian Weaver: aunt Anna Mae Crow of Harrison, Ark. Vernon was born Nov. 27, 1928 in Oklahoma to Charley and Sylvia Dilbeck, both deceased. Vernon moved to Arkansas as a child, lived in Rogers and graduated from Rogers High School in 1946. He attended College of the Ozarks in Clarksville and then served in the army for three years during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed at Scoffield Barracks in Hawaii during that time. After Vernon was discharged from the Army he married Nelda Sly also a graduate of Rogers High School. While living in Rogers he owned Vernon's grocery and also Vernon's Gas station. He worked at Wendt-Sonis before moving to California. He and his family moved to Escondido in 1959. He worked at General Dynamics, ATI and retired from Hewlett Packard in 1986. Vernon and Nelda moved to a Senior Park several years after their retirement. Vernon was very active with gardening, feeding birds and helping others. He never met a stranger.
