Naomi J. Fixter

Naomi J. Fixter, 98, of Springdale, Ark., passed away Sept. 22, 2014, in Springdale. She was born Oct. 11, 1915, in Cleves, Iowa, to Jans J. and Bessie Hinrichs Ludemann. She married Alfred A. Fixter on June 1, 1941. Naomi was a retired registered nurse. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, John M. Ludemann; and sister, Lois Blumthal. On Dec. 7, 1941, she witnessed the attack on Pearl Harbor from the porch of the Honolulu Sugar Plantation Hospital where she was on duty as a nurse. Later that day, some of the injured sailors were brought to the hospital and she helped to care for them. She is survived by a son, Michael Fixter of Santa Cruz, Calif.; daughters, Patricia Duncan of Prairie Grove, Ark., and Heather McQuarrie of Quincy, Calif.; grandchildren, Cheryl Sybrant of Farmington, Ark., Steven Duncan of West Fork, Ark., Kelley Dilloughery and Kristin Fixter, both of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Hans Keeler of Sacramento, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Sovren, Lark and Sawyer Sybrant of Farmington, Ark., Michael Dilloughery and Jack Fixter of Santa Cruz, and Nia and Leif Keeler of Sacramento. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at the First Christian Church in Fayetteville, with the Rev. Cheryl Sybrant officiating. Private interment will be in California.
