Sammie Lou Evans, 65, died July 3, 2014 at Rogers Mercy Hospital. She was born on Aug. 16, 1948, in Fayetteville to the late Lewis and Louise (Sikes) George. Sammie graduated from Bentonville High School in 1966 followed by graduation from business school. Sammie then worked as a proof operator at Farmers and Merchant's Bank until she retired. Sammie and her late husband, Ronnie Evans, owned and operated the Country Corner Store in Vaughn for several years. This little country store had been in the George and Evans' families since the early 1960s. She was a member of the Vaughn Presbyterian Church. Sammie was an avid horse rider, owned and trained horses, and was a strong advocate of Horses for Healing. While in school, she advanced in several competitions as a skilled rider. She gave generously to several charities including Mercy Hospital Foundation, Horses for Healing, Open Avenues, Youth Rodeo Circuits, and the University of Arkansas Athletic Foundation. Survivors include two cousins, Mr. Arthur Henderson of Bentonville, and Ms. Jo Vanderspikken of Springdale. Sammie was also surrounded in love by many special friends and caregivers. Services will be Monday, July 7, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Vaughn Presbyterian Church, with burial following at Barron Cemetery in Vaughn.
