Genevieve M. Pennington

Genevieve M. Pennington, age 97 years, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at her residence in Butterfield Trail Village. Genevieve was born Oct. 8, 1916, in Onida, S.D. She was one of two daughters born to Charles and Viola Garrett. Charles owned a general store and Genevieve used to help in the store. She finished high school in South Dakota and went to two years of business college. She worked for two years for the Western Union. Genevieve married her husband, Lyndell Pennington, in 1946 and was married for 20 years. Lyndell was in the Army and was stationed in Germany for three years, and several other places before settling down in Salt Lake City, Utah, where they lived for 13 wonderful years. In 1967, after her husband passed away, Genevieve decided to move to Fayetteville to be closer to her sister, Vera, and Vera's husband. They lived together in a beautiful 100-year-old home in downtown Fayetteville until October 2000, when Genevieve moved into Butterfield Trail Village. Genevieve was an avid doll collector and was a longtime member of the Doll Club of Fayetteville. She had a wonderful collection of dolls and enjoyed displaying them for others to enjoy. She was also a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Fayetteville. Genevieve is preceded in death by her husband, Lyndell Pennington; her parents, Charles and Viola Garrett; and her sister, Vera Garrett Hall. She is survived by her dear friends, Lisa Higgins, Hannah Higgins and Deeg Mitchell, all of Fayetteville; and her companions, Nadine and Charlene Gretsch of Fayetteville. She also leaves friends and the wonderful staff of Butterfield Trail Village who took such good care of her. A reception and celebration of Genevieve's life will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the Butterfield Lodge at Butterfield Trail Village, Fayetteville, Ark., with Pastor Jan Butin officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church of Fayetteville, 695 Calvin Street, Fayetteville, AR 72703; Butterfield Trail Village Foundation, 1923 E.
