Phillip David Cotterman

Phillip David Cotterman, 64, of Fayetteville passed away due to complications from lung cancer. He was born on April 15, 1950, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Clarence "Bud" and Mary Apple Cotterman. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth Cotterman and brother-in-law, Ron Wood Phillip was a Navy Veteran, member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and retired from Standard Register Company after 41 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, was an avid photographer and always had a smile on his face for the "little ones." He never met a stranger and will be remembered by many as, "Uncle Phil" for his art of reading to children at Jefferson Elementary, Owl Creek Elementary, and the library. Phillip is survived by his wife, Linda Cotterman of 38 years, his sons, James Urick and wife, Teresa of Spartanburg, S.C., Scott Smith of Fayetteville; daughter, Marcie Renee Thurman and husband, Brian of Oklahoma City, Okla.; sisters, Martha Ann Wood of Raytown, Mo., and Kathy Tankersley and husband, David of Elkins, Ark.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and friends. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014, at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville with Pastor Dave Splett and burial in Fayetteville National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30~7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fayetteville Public Library, Children's Department in honor of "Uncle Phil."
