Emma Elizabeth Tompkins

Emma Elizabeth (Dockery) Tompkins died at her home in Talent, Ore., July 29, 2014. She was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Hazel Valley, Ark. the daughter of John Elijah and Millie Jane House Dockery. On April 8, 1942, she married the love of her life, John Tompkins. She is survived by her four children, James and wife Kathy of Ashland, Ore., Ron and wife Pam of Klamath Falls, Ore., Don of Eagle Point, Ore., and Linda Tompkins Raduski and husband Allen of Medford, Ore.; a sister, Ethel Dockery Terry, a brother, John Robert Dockery, both of Fayettevile, Ark; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Raymond Dockery, Loyd Dockery, Ralph Dockery and Clarence Dockery; and two sisters, Estella Dockery and Opel Dockery Bradley. Emma worked as a dietician for the nursing home in Medford before her retirement. Emma was baptized into Christ in her teens and a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She and her husband were charter members of the West Side Church of Christ in Medford, Ore., where they attended until her death. She enjoyed cooking, working of mowing, raking leaves and manicuring her lawn, which she did only about three weeks before her death. Her funeral service was conducted by her sons, Ron and Don Tompkins, at Hill Crest Memorial Gardens in Medford, Ore., on Thursday, Aug. 7.
