Gus was sheriff in 1980 when the Titan Missile Explosion happened at Damascus. He was responsible for helping evacuate people in its path, even though officials said it was under control. He was sheriff from 1977-1986.
After retiring from the Sheriff's Department, he held many auctions for various people, with his wife and family as workers. He was a sports fan and especially loved to see his son and grandkids play.
