Betty Lee Cecil Hays-Miller

Betty Lee Cecil Hays-Miller, 73, of Fayetteville died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Washington Regional Medical Center. Betty was born on May 2, 1939, in Garfield, Ark., to her lovely mother, Nellie Bertha Ruth Smith Hays and father, Charles Everett Hays. She grew up in Rogers and later enjoyed gainful employment at Springdale Memorial Hospital as a nursing assistant and student. She was also a cook at U of A Sigma Phi Epsilon, where she was able to serve Bill Clinton as a student. She spent her entire adult life living in different communities all over Northwest Arkansas. Her hobbies and interests included volunteer work, cooking, social gatherings such as potlucks and political conventions, sewing, knitting and looking after her family. She was of the Baptist faith. She is preceded in death by her husband, Colesom Miller; her brother, Charles Ray Hays; two of her children, Joe Kent McCoy and Karlene "Karla" Ruthette McConnell; and her little dog, Sugar. Survivors include her three daughters, Marlene Rosetta Marie Sheppard-Richardson and husband, Virgil, of Bella Vista, Cathlene Annette Davis of Springdale and Jacqueline "Jackie" Suzzette Young and husband, Danny, of Greenland; two sons, Weston Lee Wallis and wife, Jenny, of Gravette, and Roy Dale McCoy and wife, Kathie, of Springdale; 31 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at The First Free Will Baptist Church, 2617 N. Crossover Road in Fayetteville. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Wally Vanderlip officiating. Burial will follow at Dowell Cemetery under the direction of Beard's Funeral Chapel.
