Claude T. Roper

Claude T. Roper of Grandview, Mo., passed away Oct. 24, 2012, at his home with his family surrounding him. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Saturday at Cullen Funeral Home, with a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Memorials to Kansas City Hospice. He was born in New Madrid, Mo., and joined the Army Air Corps in 1941. He was a P.O.W. for 18 months (Nov. 2, 1943-May 3, 1945). He worked at the F.A.A. for 30 years before retiring to Arkansas in 1976. He and his wife of 57 years moved back to Grandview in 2002. The many friends he accumulated over his lifetime enjoyed his humor and candor. Claude is survived by two daughters, Linda Tochtrop of Lawrence, Kan., Diana Stobbe of Frisco, Texas; and a son, Tom Roper of Raymore, Mo. He leaves six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; and a daughter, Patricia Young.
