Mike "Iron Mike" Meyl, 69, of Fayetteville passed away peacefully on Oct. 11, 2012. He was born in Utica, N.Y., on Oct. 31, 1942, to George and Jane Meyl, thus his love for Halloween and his vast collection of Halloween masks. Mike attended Guilderland Central High School in Guilderland, N.Y., where he was an outstanding three-sport athlete (football, basketball and baseball) and still holds records there today. He graduated from Siena College where he majored in economics and had a long career in the food service sales industry working for Sysco Food Service in Jacksonville, Fla. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Diane Meyl; brother, Will Meyl; and son, John Patrick Meyl. Mike loved to spend time with family and friends outdoors and was always smiling. He was the grandfather of seven (Tyler, Justin, Alex, Ashley, Matthew, Emily and Nicholas Meyl). He loved to take his grandkids camping, boating and fishing, and always had a "Baby Ruth" candy bar or "Oreos" handy for them to enjoy. Mike loved to work out even before it became popular. He enjoyed jogging, lifting weights, playing tennis, golfing with family, riding his motorcycle, boating, waterskiing, sailing and telling bad jokes. He loved to tinker with his car and motorcycle and has a passion for "spray painting" anything that didn't move. He loved good food and always had appetizers ready for those that would stop by to visit. He was a loving and caring father/father-in-law to Dave and Kelly Meyl, Dan and Kimberlee Meyl; brother to Brian Meyl and Linda Meyl; and was always dedicated to providing for his family and their well-being. He was active in the community coaching various youth sports and leading the neighborhood Christmas caroling activities. He was the one with the Santa hat and the whistle! A heartfelt thank you from the Meyl family to Debbie at Washington Regional Hospice and Dr. Robert Petrino for their compassion and care for Mike. A mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m. and a celebration of his life and meal will follow at the family's home at 3145 N. Bellagio in Fayetteville at noon. "Iron Mike" will be missed and often remembered by all that knew him. To sign the guest book online, please visit www.siscofuneral.com.
