Doris Ethel Bailey

Doris Ethel Johns Bailey passed away Monday, May 21, in Little Rock, Ark. She was born Jan. 24, 1923, to Flossie May Davis and lived most of her life in Fayetteville, Ark. Doris was a graduate of University High School and attended the University of Arkansas. She served honorably in the U.S. Navy Waves from 1943 to 1946 as an aviation machinist mate 1st Class, working as an airplane mechanic at Pensacola, Fla. She married Frederick D. Bailey on Dec. 8, 1946, and they were just shy of their 50th wedding anniversary when he passed away in 1996. They were members at First Christian Church for over 50 years. They were active in Order of Amaranth and Eastern Star for much of their married lives. Doris was a charter member and a 50+ year member of Fayetteville Court #13, Order of the Amaranth. She was Royal Matron several times and held several Grand offices. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 25 years, serving as Grand Representative of Nevada in Arkansas and twice as Worthy Matron. She was a lifetime member of Girl Scouts and a Girl Scout for over 83 years. She served as a leader for both of her daughters and is remembered by many Girl Scouts as a sweet lady and wonderful role model. She also worked for the Washington County Extension Service for many years. She was a long time member of the AMVETs and the American Legion. She is survived by three children, Frederick (Rick) Bailey and his wife Jamie of Fayetteville, Pat Page and her husband, Gordon, of Little Rock, and Susan Edwards and her husband, Bobby, of Draper, Utah; nine grandchildren, Ross Bailey and his wife, Jessica, Kristina Bailey Elfering, Lyndsey Page Weber and her husband, Dustin, Patrick and Christa Page, Aaron, Allie, Ashley and Lexi Edwards; and two great-grandchildren, Holden Elfering and Graham Weber. She was also blessed with step-grandchildren, Lori Massey, Todd Page, Jay Page, Tracy Varner, Amanda George, Christian George; and 10 step-great grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered as a wonderful supportive mother, grandmother and friend. Before Alzheimer's, she always remembered birthdays and special events, kept in close touch with her kids and grandkids and set an amazing example of service and community involvement. Services will be held at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home on Saturday, May 26, at 10 a.m. Visitation with the family will be at the funeral home Friday, May 25, from 5–7 p.m. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens immediately following. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Amaranth Juvenile Diabetes Fund or Girl Scouts Diamonds Council.
