Obadiah Benedum "Benny" Silcott, 87, of Rogers, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012. He was born in Morris, Okla., on April 1, 1925, to Edwin and Elizabeth (Benedum) Silcott. Obadiah was raised in eastern Oklahoma and was a graduate of Tahlequah High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. In 1965, he moved his family to Rogers after he and his brother purchased the Warehouse Market Grocery Store on Arkansas Street. In 1972, he purchased the Food Town Stores, operating in two locations in Rogers until 1992. He attended First Baptist Church in Rogers. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Ruth SIlcott; son, Eddy Silcott and wife, Kim, of Rogers; daughter, Rhonda Ruder and husband, Mark, of Owasso, Okla.; sister, Betty Ann Gill of Muskogee, Okla.; granddaughters, Kylie and Ashlyne Silcott, Jessica and Adrienne Ruder; cousins, Leona Newell and Charles Dale Miller; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ed; and a sister, Mary Catherine Dryden. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Rollins Funeral Home, officiated by Bro. Ben Rowell. Interment will follow in Benton County Memorial Park. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, should be made to Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 72764.
