Edwin Johnston

Edwin Johnston, 69, of Rogers, departed this life on Jan. 13, 2012, in Springdale. He was born Sept. 16, 1942, to parents Woodrow Kendall and Juanita (Fitzhugh) Johnston. Edwin graduated Bentonville High School in 1960. He retired from Glad Manufacturing after 32 years, where he made many lifelong friends that he considered as close as family. Edwin was an avid Razorback fan, and loved Beaver Lake and boating with his kids and grandkids. He is preceded in death by his parents; and two nephews, David Atchison and Todd Bailey. Edwin leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 46 years, Mary Ann (Turner) Johnston; a son, Paul Kendall Johnston and wife, Tina; and two daughters, Laura and Tony Grimes and Leisa and Jon Lee. Edwin was known as “Poppy” to his seven grandkids, Ryan and Jacob Grimes, Parker and Anna Johnston Lee, and Gray Edwin Fredrick, Ethan and Olivia Johnston. He also leaves behind two sisters, Rita and Randy Atchison and Reba and Bruce Hughes; and two aunts, Clarine Throneberry and Vera Griffin; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at Rollins Funeral Home, with rosary at 7 p.m. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Rogers. The Bentonville High Class of 1960 will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage loved ones to make a donation in Edwin’s memory to Circle of Life Hospice (nwacircleoflife.org), the Samaritan Community Center (www.samcc.org), or to the Adult Development Center Bus Fund (openavenues.org).
