Stanley E. Sobel

Stanley E. Sobel Jr., 78, died Feb. 27, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center. He was born on Sept. 24, 1933, in Shamokin, Pa., to the late Stanley E. Sr. and Helen Sobel. He was the loving husband of Barbara (Cross) Sobel for 52 years. He was greatly loved and will be missed. Stan worked as an aeronautical engineer for Boeing and NASA. He worked on NASA's Apollo Project and assisted in getting the first men, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin Jr. and Michael Collins, on the moon. He is survived by his wife; son, Bill Sobel of California; brother, Fritz Sobel of Pennsylvania; sisters, Betty Edmunds of Mississippi and Jackie Fry of Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Elyssa and Robert Sobel of California. A memorial service will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Rogers on Friday, March 2, 2012, at noon. His burial will be at a later date. Cremation services are being arranged by Callison-Lough Funeral Home.
