Martha Sue Jefferies

MARTHA SUE JEFFERIES, 82, died Oct. 13, 2011, at St. Vincent's Hospital. She was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Dallas, Texas, the youngest child and only daughter of Dr. and Mrs. (Mary Lillian) Robert Bowen Moore Senior. She attended Hendrix College for two years before marrying Robert Wells Jefferies on her birthday in 1949. Martha Sue was a life-long Methodist having grown up the daughter of a Methodist minister. As an adult, she worked for 35 years with Mother's Day Out programs in various churches in Little Rock, Fayetteville, and Houston, Texas. The last few years she has volunteered many hours for Pulaski Heights Methodist Church where she was an usher, on the board of stewards, on the altar guild, on the mission board, on the older adults council, on the food committee, a member of the Energizers choir, chairperson of the Society of St. Stephen, part of the prayer shawl ministry, and a member of the Dietz Sunday school class. Martha Sue was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Withers Moore, and her husband, Robert Wells Jefferies. She leaves to cherish her memory three children: Carol Anne(John) Jones of North Little Rock, Kappi Elrod of Fayetteville, and Rob (Lori) Jefferies of Alpharetta, Ga. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, sister-in-law Betty Moore, brother, Robert (Eva) Moore, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. A celebration of Martha Sue Jefferies' life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, the 17, at the Pulaski Heights Methodist Church at 4823 Woodlawn Avenue in Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory can be sent to the Pulaski Heights Methodist Church General Operating Fund.
