FAYETTEVILLE-- Certain trails of Centennial Park will be closed to the public beginning Monday to allow for final preparations for the 2024 U.S. Pro Cup mountain biking event, according to a news release from the city.

The event will be held Wednesday through April 7 at Centennial Park in Fayetteville and is free for spectators.

This festival-style event is part of the U.S. Cup Series for mountain biking and will feature past and present Olympians, world champions and national champions competing for critical qualifying points ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, according to the release.

The affected trails are World Cup, Chasing Gold and the northeast and east sections of Fayetteville Traverse. They will be closed through April 8 to keep them in the best shape for competition and give time to clean up after the event.

Learners Permit, Pop Rocks, Junk Drawer, Basket Case and west and southwest portions of Fayetteville Traverse will remain open.

Spectators looking to walk or cycle to the event can take the paved trail accessible from South Mount Millsap Lane off Old Farmington Road or the Fayetteville Traverse trail accessible from South Dinsmore Trail Road off Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Limited public parking will be available at Centennial Park on a first-come, first-served basis, the release states.
