Prep football standouts honored at Hawgs Illustrated Sports Club luncheon

The Hawgs Illustrated Sports Club’s 2023 Prep Football Luncheon recognized six outstanding prep football players and coaches on Wednesday. SPRINGDALE — Class 7A state football champion Fayetteville earned three awards at the Hawgs Illustrated Sports Club 2023 Football Awards luncheon, sponsored by Everett Volkswagen, on Wednesday in Springdale.

Senior quarterback Drake Lindsey, who led the Bulldogs to a 13-0 record, was named the Player of the Year. Lindsey, who signed to play football at Minnesota as an early enrollee, passed for 3,916 yards and 52 touchdowns to leading the program to its first perfect season.

Senior Kaden Spencer was named the Defensive Player of the Year, anchoring a stout Fayetteville defense as a linebacker and defensive end. Spencer recorded 90 tackles and 10 sacks for the Bulldogs in 2023.

Coach Casey Dick was named the Coach of the Year. Dick led the Bulldogs to the best season in program history, capped by a state title win against Bentonville to bring the 7A trophy back to the 7A-West.

Bentonville senior quarterback Carter Nye was named the Offensive Player of the Year. Nye, who committed to Arkansas Tech earlier this week, passed for more than 3,000 yards and helped the Tigers end Bryant's 5-year run as state champions with a win in the semifinals.

Rogers sophomore Jeff Regan was named the Newcomer of the Year. Regan starred in all three phases for the Mounties as a standout receiver and quarterback on offense, in the secondary on defense and as a special teams weapon who returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.

Bo Williams, who led Shiloh Christian to the Class 5A state title game for the second straight season, was the recipient of the Jim Lindsey Leadership Award. Williams, a team captain for the Saints, rushed for 1,900 yards to lead the team. His season was highlighted by a 388-yard game against Class 6A state runner-up Little Rock Christian that also included 5 rushing touchdowns.

The Hawgs Illustrated Sports Club recognizes the outstanding achievements of prep and college athletes across Northwest Arkansas. The club meets monthly during the football offseason, and weekly during the season. Tickets and sponsorships are available for the luncheons, where each week high school athletes in all sports are recognized as well as top performances by University of Arkansas athletes.
