BENTONVILLE — A plane went off the runway at Thaden Field while attempting to take off at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, said Debbie Griffin, the city’s airport manager.

Griffin said the pilot reported having mechanical issues.

Seven people were on board the 1991 Beech 400A Jet; two had minor injuries and were taken to a hospital, but not by firefighters, Griffin said.

Bentonville firefighters and hazmat crews responded to the scene.

Griffin said the incident had been reported to the Federal Aviation Administration. She said the runway would be closed for few hours while excess fuel was being cleaned off it.

Zeke Spence, a battalion chief with the Bentonville Fire Department, said firefighters were mitigating a gas leak from the plane’s right wing and then would turn the scene over to the FAA.

The jet is owned by PDII LLC, based in Concord, N.C., according to FAA registry records.
