A Springdale man was arrested Wednesday in connection with intimidating a witness after she told police he had raped her.

Marco Carrillo-Vaca, 32, of 2200 E. Mountain Road in Springdale was arrested on one count of intimidating a witness. Carrillo was being held at the Washington County Detention Center on Thursday in lieu of $40,000 bond. He has an April 26 arraignment set.

Springdale police were contacted Dec. 28 by a woman who said Carrillo-Vaca, her ex-boyfriend, was harassing and threatening her after she reported to police he raped her, according to a preliminary police report. She said Carrillo-Vaca threatened in December to post explicit photos of her unless she agreed not to pursue the rape charge.

The woman told police Carrillo-Vaca sent her an affidavit to sign in November that had been prepared by his attorney saying she did not want to file charges.

In January, Carrillo-Vaca told the woman he was going to send the photos to her boyfriend, according to the report.

Carrillo-Vaca has been ordered to have no contact with the woman. An order of protection was sought against Carrillo-Vaca on Dec. 28.

Court records indicate Carrillo-Vaca was charged with rape by Washington County prosecutors Jan. 18. The intimidation charge was filed by prosecutors March 22.
