LISTEN: Know the News - Branson's updated Fire in the Hole

FIRE IN THE HOLE
Steve Parrish, fire chief at Silver Dollar City near Branson, Mo., welcomes invited guests Wednesday to a preview of the new Fire in the Hole indoor roller coaster at the 1880s theme park. Silver Dollar City bills it as "The largest indoor roller coaster in The Heartland." The family-friendly coaster offers a 3-minute ride along a route 1,500 feet long. It opens to the public on Saturday, replacing the original Fire in the Hole roller coaster that opened in 1972. Fire in the Hole is a feature of a new Silver Dollar City entertainment fire district. Dozens of municipal and volunteer firefighters were among the crowd of some 3,509 guests to attended the preview. The ride is based on an actual event where outlaw baldknobbers set fire to a mining town at Marvel Cave, which is part of the theme park. The roller coaster is suitable for children at least 36 inches tall, along with adults. Go to nwaonline.com/photos for today's photo gallery.
