FAYETTEVILLE — A Fayetteville man was arrested early Saturday morning on Dickson Street after police say he robbed and threatened people at gunpoint and briefly escaped from the officers who were trying to apprehend him.

Taveon Mahone, 20, of 1976 E. Spinel Link Apt. 7, in Fayetteville, was arrested in connection with aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, battery, resisting arrest, fleeing and escape. Mahone was being held Monday in the Washington County Detention Center on $250,000 bond.

Police were called to Tin Roof, 430 W. Dickson St., around 1:39 a.m. Saturday on a report of an armed person. When officers arrived they were told the suspect was a man in a blue Champion hoodie. According to a preliminary report, the officers saw a man matching the description walking south on West Avenue near Tin Roof and attempted to stop him. The officers saw what appeared to be a firearm in the front pocket of the hoodie.

Police said the man, later identified as Mahone, ran from the officers who chased and tackled him. Mahone struggled with the officers, the report says, and attempted to retrieve a Glock 22 from the front pocket of his hoodie.

Mahone was handcuffed and, while being taken to a patrol vehicle, broke free from the officers and began running east on Dickson Street. He was again tackled by officers a second time and then placed into the back of a patrol vehicle. The report says the officers suffered minor injuries while making the arrest.

Officers were told Mahone approached two men and threatened them with the Glock 22 and took a pair of glasses and a necklace. One of the victims said Mahone hit him on the left ear with the pistol.

An employee at Tin Roof told the officers Mahone had been standing on the top of a table in the bar and was asked to leave. According to the report, after being escorted out of the bar Mahone faced the employee and drew the pistol from his hoodie. The employee told police that Mahone pressed the barrel against the employee’s head and said “I’ll blow this place up,” and “I’ll shoot up the place.”
