Walmart Inc. wants to help customers donate to nonprofits this Christmas season through its Spark Good Roundup campaign, the company said Monday.

The Bentonville-based retailer said that the program it started in September lets customers shopping at Walmart.com or on its app round up their purchase total at checkout to the nearest dollar.

They’ll then be prompted to search the site or go to Walmart.com/Spark-Good to look for the charity they want to receive their donation. If it isn’t listed, they can send a referral link to the nonprofit of their choice.

And starting Friday through Dec. 25, Walmart will match these donations up to a total of $1 million. The match will bring the total amount donated to up to $2 million.

To “incentivize” shoppers and nonprofits to take part in the campaign, Walmart will give a $1,000 grant to up to 3,000 nonprofits that get at least 20 customer donations.

That would potentially bring total donations through Spark Good Roundup’s Christmas campaign to as much as $5 million.

Nonprofits can join the program by creating a list at walmart.com/nonprofitsof items they need.
