J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. is adding Wayfair as part of its autonomous trucking pilot program alongside its partner Waymo.

The pilot program will take place over six weeks in July and August along Interstate 45 between Houston and Dallas and will employ Waymo’s autonomous trucks, according to a release Tuesday.

“Real-time testing with customers like Wayfair is critical to making autonomous freight movement a viable solution in the future,” said Craig Harper, chief sustainability officer and executive vice president at Lowell-based J.B. Hunt. “Every supply chain is unique, so it’s important that customers can work alongside J.B. Hunt and Waymo to ensure that advanced autonomous technology will create capacity that meets their needs.

In January, J.B. Hunt began a long-term partnership with Waymo to use driverless vehicles for moving goods with the intent to bring autonomous driving tech to its operations and offer driverless transport to customers in Texas over the next few years.
