BENEFITS WITH FRIENDS: Sip & Savor supports kids

Sip & Savor, presented by General Mills to benefit Boys & Girls Club of Benton County on Aug. 25, will feature savories from area restaurants, sips from several sponsors, wine and spirit pulls and games.

Organizers say the fundraiser is a chance for adults in the community to “listen to music, network, mingle, enjoy food and drinks — and support the Boys & Girls Club. The environment is casual, uplifting and has a block party vibe. It is one of only three annual fundraising events we have that allow us to do our work with kids and families that we do all year long.”

The nonprofit organization’s mission is “to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.” The three pillars of the mission are academic success, healthy lifestyles and character and citizenship.

Academic success programs include Power Hour for homework assistance, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) activities and Girls Who Code.

Commit to Fit teaches creative ways to incorporate exercise, the importance of proper hydration and emphasizes the benefits and impact exercise has on the mind as well as the body.

Character and citizenship development programs include Torch Club for boys and girls ages 11 to 13, in which members “elect officers and work together to implement projects in the four focus areas: service to club and community; education; health and fitness; and social recreation.” Keystone Club for 14- to 18-year-olds provides leadership development by focusing on academic success, career preparation and community service.

K’Zoli’s, Local Moh-tiv, Spud Doctors and Wicked Wood Pizza will offer tastes, and sips will be provided by Beam Suntory, Beat Box, Body Armor and Miller Coors.

John Laney, Walmart senior vice president and Center of Store Food general merchandise manager, serves as the fundraiser’s co-chairman with Creighton Kiper, Walmart vice president, beauty.
