Two law enforcement officers injured and Bentonville man shot


Two law enforcement officers were injured Saturday in an incident where a Bentonville man was shot, according to a press release from the Arkansas State Police.

A Cleburne County sheriff's deputy and a Heber Springs police officer were wounded by Cody Weidemann, 31, who was suspected of trespassing on property along the eastern edge of Heber Springs, according to the press release.

Authorities were notified at 8 a.m. Saturday about a trespasser at 295 Wilburn Road, according to the release.

The deputy and police officer encountered Weidemann at the address, according to the release.

Both of the law enforcement officers were cut with a razor-type instrument, according to the release. The deputy and police officer used gunfire to subdue Weidemann, according to the release.

None of the three are believed to have suffered life-threatening wounds, the release states.

The police officer was treated and released at a local hospital, according to the release.

The deputy and Weidemann were transported to a Little Rock hospital, and both were reported to be in stable condition, according to the release.

The criminal investigation division for the Arkansas State Police will investigate into the use of deadly force by the deputy and the officer, according to the release.

The investigative file will be submitted to the prosecuting attorney who will determine whether the gunfire by both officers was used consistent with Arkansas laws, according to the release.
