Texarkana officer shoots, kills man; investigation underway

TEXARKANA, Ark. - A Texarkana police officer shot and killed a man who had charged at officers while threatening to kill them Saturday night, according to a news release issued Sunday by the department.

Officers were called to the 1100 block of Hickory Street at around 9:44 p.m. for a possible disturbance, the release said. The caller had told a dispatcher that a man was pacing in the street, yelling that he was going to kill someone.

Officers made contact with the man - identified by police as Don Crowson, 37 - in an apartment in the 1000 block of Hickory. When they did, the man charged the officers with an object, yelling that he was going to kill them, the release said.

An officer then fired his service weapon, hitting the man, the release said. Officers rendered aid until medical help arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, the report said.

The officers involved were not injured, according to the release.

The release said the Arkansas State Police is investigating the shooting.
