ASU gets two commits

Arkansas State University received commitments Friday from Georgia defensive end Dennard Flowers and Texas athlete Perrish Cox III to add to its 2021 class.

Flowers, a 6-4 edge rusher from Hampton, Ga., chose the Red Wolves over offers from Texas State, South Alabama and Troy, among others. Cox committed to ASU without a defined position but has played both wide receiver and cornerback at Waco (Texas) Connally.

Nachtigal signs with UCA

Ali Nachtigal will go down as one of the most decorated runners in Rogers history, but that won’t end anytime soon, as she signed a national letter of intent to run cross country and track at the University of Central Arkansas in a ceremony at Rogers High School earlier this week.

The senior looked at signing day as a time of reflection.

“It’s a day to enjoy the gifts that God gave me to where I can further my career running at a school that I’m excited to run for,” Nachtigal said.

UCA had plenty to offer Nachtigal besides just the cross country and track programs.

“UCA just had an incredible nursing program which is somewhere I want to go,” Nachtigal said. “I like the Christian ministry outlets there. I love the campus there and the team and athletic facilities are just great.”

Nachtigal is a three-time Class 6A state cross country champion. She was also a two-time Gatorade Arkansas girls cross country runner of the year. The senior also had success on the track as a two-time indoor state champion in the mile and 2-mile runs.

UAM women’s games postponed

The Great American Conference announced late Friday that two University of Arkansas-Monticello women’s games have been postponed because of covid-19 protocols within the Cotton Blossoms program.

Today’s game against Arkansas Tech University in Russellville and Monday’s game against Southern Arkansas University in Monticello will not be played as scheduled, consistent with the conference’s covid-19 management requirements.

The GAC said in a news release that any rescheduled games would be announced once agreements have been reached between the affected schools.
