Benefit car show draws 52 entries

$600 raised for Centerton Animal Shelter

CENTERTON — The 72 West/Heroes Coffee car show, held Sept. 26, was a big success.

The weather cooperated beautifully, with bright, sunny skies and a brisk cooling breeze, and hundreds of spectatorscame out to view the vehicles on display.

With Pickin’ Time on 59 and some biker events going on, several extra folks were in the area and many chose to include the show on their weekend agenda.

The show, coordinated by Chris and Tina Crose of Gravette, drew a total of 52 entries. Trophies were given in several categories and over $600 was raised to benefit the Centerton Animal Shelter. Mayor Bill Edwards attended and presented his Mayor’s Choice trophy to Bob Griffith for his 1982 Chevrolet El Camino.

Winners in the various categories included:

• Motorcycle: First place, Bruce McCreery, 1993 Harley-Davidson chopper; second place, Casey Saunders, 2020 Custom Cruzer Rayvolt motorized bicycle.

• Classic: First place, Matthew Desmit, 1965 Pontiac GTO; second place, Steve Fader, 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air; third place, Patty Morgan, 1966 Ford Mustang.

• Truck: First place, Bob Mc-Garrah, 1971 Chevrolet C10 pickup; second place, Bobby Luffman, 1950 Ford F-1 pickup; third place, Eldon Caldwell, 1951 Chevrolet pickup.

• Modified: First place, James Tucker, 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu wagon; second place, Dana Scott, 1972 Chevrolet Nova; third place, Rigo Diaz, 1970 Oldsmobile Delta

• Off Road: First place, John Vieller, 1958 Dodge Power Wagon; second place, Brent Russell, 1996 H-1 Hummer (only two entries).

• Stock: First place, Ken Williams, 1996 Chevrolet Corvette; second place, Luis Divera, 1966 Chevrolet Caprice; third place, Michael Harder, 1960 Volkswagen Beetle.

• Oldest Vehicle (sponsored by Heroes Coffee): Bob Munro, 1915 Ford C-Cab Delivery.

• Herman Smith of Gravette won the trophy for best interior for his 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible.

Players from the RBI 11U baseball team in Bentonville were on hand and gave away six raffle prizes to car show visitors.

The boys, who play several Northwest Arkansas teams, as well as teams in Oklahoma and Missouri, were raising money to help fund their spring season.
