The Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Library System's new main library, 600 S. Main St., and branch libraries will open on Nov. 30 with limited services, according to a Friday news release.

Branch libraries are located at Altheimer, White Hall, Redfield and the Watson Chapel community.

"The library wants to assure everyone that precautions are being placed to reduce the chances of spreading covid-19," according to the release. "The library wants the people of Pine Bluff and Jefferson County to be healthy and safe. To that end, masks are required to enter and remain in the library."

Masks must be worn correctly covering the nose and mouth.

"If you cannot wear a mask, call us at (870) 534-4802 and we will be happy to deliver the items you select online to the curbside delivery area," according to the release.

Access to the library will be limited to 30 minutes per person, which will include access to the computers. The library may close for several minutes during the day to provide additional ventilation to closed-in areas and give staff an opportunity to sanitize areas. The number of people admitted to the library will be limited to observe social distancing.

"The library welcomes you back and thanks you for your patience. The library staff are looking forward to being able to serve you once again," according to the release.

In 2016, city and county voters approved two millage increases, totaling about $14 million, to upgrade the system's four branches at White Hall, Watson Chapel, Redfield and Altheimer as well as to build a new main library in Pine Bluff on Main Street.

The system spent about $1.2 million for renovations and expansions at Redfield, Altheimer and White Hall. The remaining money, about $12 million, was spent on the ground-up construction at the main branch and work at Watson Chapel.

The White Hall library was built in 1979 and last remodeled in 2005, and its circulation includes about 25,000 items, such as books, DVDs, audiobooks, American Girl kits and technology for children.
