FAYETTEVILLE -- A Rogers man was sentenced to federal prison Monday on drug and gun charges.

Tyler Dellinger, 29, was sentenced to 13 years followed by three years of supervised release on one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

Arkansas probation and parole officers along with special agents and task force officers with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration contacted Dellinger on Oct. 30 after being told he was trying to distribute heroin in Northwest Arkansas and there was a warrant for his arrest, according to court records.

Dellinger had about a quarter of a pound of heroin, a stolen firearm with ammunition, drug paraphernalia, and a small amount of methamphetamine. Dellinger told officers he traveled out of state two or three times a week to buy heroin and bought the firearm for protection.

Dellinger was indicted by a federal grand jury in November and entered a guilty plea in February.

U.S. District Judge Timothy L. Brooks presided over the sentencing hearing.
