SPRINGDALE — Police have identified a woman found lying dead on Oakhill Drive Wednesday night and arrested a man in connection with the investigation.

Police said they identified the woman as Mary Franke, 40, of 2109 Oakhill Drive in Springdale.

According to a press release, Marcus Grogan, 36, also of 2109 Oakhill Drive, has been arrested in connection with Franke’s death. Grogan was arrested Thursday in connection with leaving the scene of an accident with injury. He was being held Thursday in the Washington County Detention Center with no bond set.

Officers were called to the 2000 block of Oakhill Drive about 10 p.m. on Wednesday, according to a news release. Officers found Franke unresponsive and with head trauma. The investigation indicated Franke had been hit by a car, according to a police report.

Paramedics from the Fire Department pronounced Franke dead at the scene. The Washington County Coroner sent Franke’s body to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

According to the report, detectives identified Franke and went to her address where Grogan answered the door. According to the report, Grogan initially said he didn’t know Franke, but then said she was not at the residence. According to the report, Grogan said he had left the residence about two hours before and he had not seen Franke in that time.

Grogan agreed to be interviewed at the Springdale Police Department, according to the report, and told detectives he and Franke had been fighting earlier that day. Grogan told the investigators he was leaving the residence to take his work truck to a storage location when Franke ran out after him. He reportedly said he felt “a small bump” while driving but never stopped to see if he had hit anything.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
